President's Message

The Chemical and Alkali Merchants' Association is entering its 60th Year on 18th Jan 2016.  As the Office Bearers of this August Association, along with my energetic colleagues, I consider it a great honor and our good fortune to serve the Association on this momentous occasion.

We look back with pride at the vision and foresight of our founders - a small band of highly dedicated traders, who made Mumbai their home and set shop in the small by lanes of Vadgadi with nothing with them but courage and a dream. The harsh conditions of life in general and business in those days sowed the seeds of service to trade and society into their exploring minds. Thus was born our Association - CAMA, one January morning, sixty years ago. Till today, neither has the purpose been lost its Relevance nor have we, the proud members, forgotten the objectives. CAMA continues to render excellent service to the Chemical Distributors & Channel partners and community far and wide.

In its’ 59 years journey CAMA has not forgotten the need of the weaker section of the society. Right from our members’ staff to those affected by unpredictable natural disasters, our philanthropic activities help students from weaker sections of society with books and stationery, periodically organize free eye check-up camp, give financial assistance for cataract surgery, take care of financial need of children suffering with serious diseases.

The constructive role played by CAMA and the massive voice raised by our members for Cenvat Rule simplification, the fight to set right the Solvent Control Order, the rationalization of the Service Tax rules affecting small brokers, the fight for Sales Tax Laws that finally culminated in VAT being introduced in Maharashtra, reinstalling the zero stage status for the importers, simplification in availing modvat credit in SIT & direct dispatch from manufacturers / importers form the unending list of issues of utmost concern to the trade that we have taken at the highest - National or State level.

CAMA's expertise in providing emergency aid and rehabilitation to those affected by Unfortunate Natural disasters is widely acclaimed. CAMA has always stood by the victims side - be it the drought that engulfed Saurashtra, the flash floods at Pen, the earthquake at Latur or Kutch, KARGIL WAR or the Tsunami in South. Our members' generosity and philanthropy is unmatchable and we are truly proud of their ability to give and stand by the Association whenever the need arises.

In keeping with changing times, CAMA has upgraded its format of services to include Sports, knowledge acquisition and other activities to appeal to the expectation of the young emerging next generation traders.

CAMA's members' numbers are growing and their expectations and profiles are rapidly changing with times. We request all Members to actively involve themself in our activities to provide future leaders and soldiers for this Association.

Your valuable and unlimited suggestions / contributions are sought in order to make the already memorable journey more meaningful in the many more years to come.
