Dear Members,

WISH YOU HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

The Chemical and Alkali Merchants' Association is entering its Golden Jubilee Year on 18th Jan 2006. Being the Office Bearers of this Association, we consider it a great honour and our good fortune to serve the Association on this momentous occasion.

We look back with pride at the vision and foresight of our founders - a small band of highly dedicated traders, who made Mumbai their home and set shop in the small by lanes of Vadgadi with nothing with them but courage and a dream. The harsh conditions of life in general and business in those days sowed the seeds of service to trade and society into their exploring minds. Thus was born our Association - CAMA, one January morning, half a century ago. Till today, neither has the purpose been lost its Relevance nor have we the proud members, forgotten the objectives. CAMA continues to render excellent service to the Chemical Trade and community far and wide. Right from our members' staff to those affected by unpredictable natural disasters, our activities enfolds students from weaker sections of society with books and stationery, workers with poor eyesight with nearly free high quality treatment and children with life threatening ailments.

Trading in India, while having changed substantially and for the better over the last 50 Years especially with the reform process, has unfortunately, never been a respected activity in the eyes of the Govt. Thus, it receives little or no support. This has been the greatest challenge of our Association. Thus, we never cease to face hurdles in carrying out our day-to-day business affairs.

The constructive role played by CAMA and the massive voice raised by our members for Cenvat Rule simplification, the fight to set right the Solvent Control Order, the rationalization of the Service Tax rules affecting small brokers, the fight for Sales Tax Laws that finally culminated in VAT being introduced in Maharashtra form the unending list of issues of utmost concern to the trade that we have taken at the highest - National or State level.

CAMA's expertise in providing emergency aid and rehabilitation to those affected by Unfortunate Natural disasters is widely acclaimed. CAMA has always stood by the victims side - be it the drought that engulfed Saurashtra, the flash floods at Pen, the earthquake at Latur or Kutch, KARGIL WAR or the latest Tsunami in South. Our members' generosity and philanthropy is unmatchable and we are truly proud of their ability to give and stand by the Association whenever the need arises.

In keeping with changing times, CAMA has upgraded its format of services to include Sports, knowledge acquisition and other activities appeal to the expectation of the young emerging next generation traders.

The 50th Year will see a stream of activities, to be flagged off on 18th Jan 2006, coicinciding with our Founding Day with the inauguration of the Primary School Wing at Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu for the Tsunami affected children followed by the inauguration on 19th Jan 2006 at Chennai of a tailoring Training class for Tsunami affected fishermen's' children at Nemellikuppan near Chennai. They year long program will include the Grand Function on Sat 11th Feb evening at the Bhaidas Hall and will be followed by a stream of activities that include a proposal for starting a specialized library and renaming the chowk at Vadgadi as CAMA chowk.

Your valuable and unlimited suggestions / contributions are sought on this auspicious occasion, in order to make the Golden Jubilee Celebrations memorable and worthy of our founders' dreams.

We have decided to use the proceeds of the Funds collected during the Golden Jubilee drive, to meet the various objects of the Association and in particular as Seed Money for long awaited warehousing project - Project Chemcare as well for the adoption of Primary school children in the vicinity of VADGADI. You valuable contributions will be entirely utilized for various important matters of concern to the Trade and for noble causes.

The Fund raising drive will include a Souvenir / Directory that will be published in the Golden Jubilee Year whose details and Tariff card is enclosed herewith.

In keeping with the spirit and aims of the Association, all the activities will be contributory and our colleagues on the Managing Committee and ourselves solicit fund raising in nature and your wholehearted support.

Yours truly,
